Ellen Sim
Ellen grew up on both coasts of Canada and completed a thirty-year military career as a dentist. A random drawing course sparked a passion for drawing and then painting. Ellen’s interest lies in portraiture and the figure. She finds mystery, joy, and community in the human figure. Both art historical themes and contemporary figurative art influence her work. Her principal interest is in fashioning a story around the image of a person and rendering it in oils. In addition to this, she draws and paints from live models and enjoys creating in a variety of mediums during live sessions. In her work, she explores the humble line and the music of colour. She is a member of the Peggy’s Cove Area Festival of the Arts, Steel Spirit Canada, and Draw Brighton. She will be participating in the Peggy’s Cove Area Festival of the Arts Studio Tour in the summer of 2025.
